Alcohol Abuse and Dependence

  • 51% of US residents are current alcohol users

  • Alcoholism is the third largest health problem in USA

  • 10% of women and 20% of men qualify for a diagnosis of Alcohol Abuse ( recurrent alcohol use that interferes with person's life, e.g. legal problems, work/school/home problems etc.)

  • 5% of women and 10% of men qualify for a diagnosis of Alcohol Dependence ( person becomes tolerant to alcohol, has withdrawal symptoms when not drinking, has substance seeking activities etc.)

If you answered YES to several of the above questions you might have a problem with your drinking and you could benefit from psychiatric treatment ( medication, individual or group psychotherapy, etc.) and of AA meetings.
