OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

  • OCD ( Obsessive Compulsive disorder ) occurs in 2-3% of population

 

Answer the following questions:

1.

Do you have either obsessions or compulsions?

a) Obsessions :

  • Do you experience recurrent, intrusive and inappropriate thoughts or impulses that are not simply excessive worries about real life problems and that cause anxiety or distress?

  • Do you try to ignore the thoughts or impulses?
  • Do you try to neutralize them with other thought or action?

b) Compulsions:

  • Do you perform repetitively some behavior (hand washing, checking) or mental acts (counting, praying) in response to an obsession and in order to prevent the anxiety or a dreaded event?

 

 

 

 

2.

Do you recognize that the obsessions / compulsions are excessive or unreasonable?

 

3.

Are the obsessions / compulsions time consuming, interfering with your normal functioning or distress provoking?

 

 

 

If you answered with YES to most of the above questions you probably suffer from OCD and you might benefit from psychiatric treatment (medication, psychotherapy).
